WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — It seemed like it would be a sleepy first night of the YMCA Capital City League halfway through the first game.

Deonte Burton’s Hannah Homes squad had a 14-point lead over Renaissance Granite & Quartz, and only one Iowa State player would be playing in the night’s last two games.

Once the second half started, Monte Morris made sure the night didn’t end as a snoozer.

Morris scored 36 points (including six 3-pointers), grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out seven assists in leading Renaissance to a 112-108 come from behind win. Morris’ team outscored Hannah Homes 73-55 in the second half.

After the game, Morris took some time to talk about his recent trip to Atlanta, the CP3 Elite Guard camp next weekend and his summer training. You can see everything he had to say in this video.

Burton finished with 16 points and had seven rebounds. He shot 6-of-19 from the floor and just 2-of-12 from behind the arc.

Burton did give us the highlight of the night with a reverse 360 slam off a steal halfway through the second half. This probably means nothing in the long run, but he had a -16 plus/minus.

Burton also told reporters after the game that camp season and the team’s first individuals workouts have him feeling pretty tired. You can see him say that right here.

Stu Nezlek scored five points and grabbed three rebounds for Hannah Homes. He electrified the crowd when he swished a 3-pointer during the second half.

GAME TWO: Des Moines Outreach Lions Club 104, Phoenix Renewable Resources 101

*** All of the Iowa State players that were slated to play in this one weren’t able to. Naz Mitrou-Long is off trying to earn a spot on the Canadian national team while the newcomers were in Ames attending an athletic department event called "Cyclone Academy."

Jakolby Long, Merill Holden and Darrell Bowie most likely won’t play on any Wednesday night during the summer. Mitrou-Long likely won’t be back until at least July.

So, keep that in mind if you’re planning a family outing at Valley Southwoods.

Drake’s Ore Arogundade scored 27 points and Matt Tiby added 26 to lead Phoenix Renewable Resources to their first win of the year.

GAME THREE: Tim Vorland Photography 118, ADIO Chiropractic 116

*** Matt Thomas put together a double-double with 25 points and 12 rebounds to lead his team to a win while shooting 5-of-9 from behind the 3-point line. Simeon Carter scored 16 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked two shots in the win.

Nick Babb scored 16 points with five rebounds and five assists in the loss. Freshman big-man Solomon Young was at Cyclone Academy.
