Cyclones No. 4 in newest AP poll

AMES — The Iowa State men’s basketball team has officially achieved their highest ranking in the Associated Press poll since 1996-97. The Cyclones are No. 4 in the newest poll released Monday afternoon, up from No. 7 last week.

Kentucky is the nation’s new No. 1 team followed by Maryland and Michigan State to make up the top three. Iowa State’s Big 12 rival Kansas is No. 5.

North Carolina, last week’s No. 1 team, fell to No. 9 in the rankings following their loss to Northern Iowa on Saturday.

Oklahoma (No. 7) is the only other Big 12 team in the poll. Future Iowa State opponents Cincinnati (No. 24) and Texas A&M (No. 25) both made their way into the poll for the first time this season.

The No. 4 Cyclones will be in action Monday night at 7 p.m. against Chattanooga at Hilton Coliseum.
