Deonte Burton continues to receive acclaim for his rim-bending, energetic way of playing the game.
The 6-4 junior marks up the stat sheet as well — and that’s why this morning he was named the Big 12’s Newcomer of the Week for a conference-leading fourth time this season.
Burton scored a career high 23 points in Saturday’s win over TCU. He also shattered his previous single-game personal-best in boards with 14. He’d managed to corral as many as six rebounds multiple times before.

AMES — Iowa State forward Deonte Burton earned his second-straight Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honor and his league-best fourth this season.
Burton averaged a double-double for the Cyclones last week with 18.5 points and 10.0 rebounds. The junior connected on 56.0 percent (14-of-25) of his shots from the field and sank 88.9 percent (8-of-9) of his attempts at the free throw line. He finished the week by matching his career best with 23 points against TCU while grabbing 14 boards. The rebounding total was eight more than his previous high. Burton also had 14 points and six rebounds in an overtime contest with Baylor. Since moving into the starting rotation, Burton is averaging 15.6 points and shooting 55.2 percent from the field.
Burton and the Cyclones play West Virginia tonight at 8 p.m. (CT).
Baylor’s Johnathan Motley was named Big 12 Player of the Week.
