Hogue, Amardi & others suspended two games after incident

Two future Iowa State men’s basketball players, as well as eight others, have been suspended for two games a piece after an incident following Indian Hill Community College’s 104-99 victory over Southeastern Community College on Saturday night.

Richard Amardi and Dustin Hogue, both of whom signed with Iowa State in November, will miss tonight’s game at Moberly and Saturday’s contest with Marshalltown.

On Monday night, the Iowa Community Athletic Conference ruled that five Indian Hills players had been suspended, as well as five members of Terry Carroll’s Southeastern squad as well. In addition to the players, Indian Hills coach Barret Peery has been suspended for one game.

“It has obviously been a heated rivalry game for years and years,
Peery told Cyclone Fanatic on Tuesday morning. "We were able to come back and win a real emotional game on the road. The two teams got tangled up so five players have been suspended a couple of games for each team."

Two of those men being future Cyclones, Hogue and Amardi.

"They weren’t crazy-malicious deals but what went on was contact being made – pushing and shoving and what not," said Peery. "The commissioner came down pretty heavy on both schools. He already knows about how heated it is anyway.”

“I don’t want it to be a negative that they were crazy or out of control or anything like that. It was just an unfortunate incident.”

According to the Ottumwa Currier, Peery had to receive four stitches after the game.

Indian Hills is currently the third-ranked junior college team in America with two regular season games to go on its schedule.

“We have a great team," said Peery. "We are 26-2. We’re ranked two or three in the country and we have a lot more a basketball to play and they (Hogue and Amardi) will be a big, big part of it."

Amardi, a 6-foot-9 junior, is averaging 8.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game this season.

Hogue, a 6-foot-6 sophomore, is averaging 12.6 points and 5.2 rebounds per contest.
