AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State men’s basketball team has announced the signing of graduate transfers Darrell Bowie (pronounced bo-ee) and Merrill (pronounced Muhrl) Holden.

“We are excited about the additions of Darrell and Merrill,” Prohm said. “Having multiple players graduate that played significant minutes from last year’s team, including more than 30 a game each from Georges (Niang), Jameel (McKay) and Abdel (Nader), we knew we would need to find experience and we were able to do that. I look forward to having them join our program and feel they will be big contributors to our team.”

Bowie, a 6-7 forward from Northern Illinois, committed to the Cyclones in March. He averaged 8.3 points and 5.2 rebounds in his three seasons with the Huskies.

Bowie redshirted the 2015-16 season while recovering from a shoulder injury suffered his junior season. Prior to suffering the injury in January of 2015, the Milwaukee, Wisconsin native was averaging 13.1 points and 7.1 rebounds. He finished his junior campaign averaging 9.8 points and 5.4 rebounds, scoring in double figures seven times in 17 games.

Holden, a 6-8 forward from Louisiana Tech, averaged 8.1 points and 5.0 rebounds in 23.4 minutes for the Bulldogs in 2015-16.

Holden also posted 1.1 blocks and shot 51.6 percent from the field. The Chicago, Illinois native scored in double figures nine times, including a 13 point-11 rebound double-double against North Texas. Holden, who started his career at Pratt Community College (Kan.), started the final 16 games last season, averaging 10.2 points and 5.3 rebounds as a starter.
