McGee’s six 3-pointers lead Cyclones over UMKC

Tyrus McGee came off the bench and scored 20 points on six 3-pointers as Iowa State (9-3) fought for a 76-61 win over UMKC (4-7) Wednesday night at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City. 

The Cyclones led by only one at halftime and trailed by as many as four points in the second half. A Korie Lucious three-pointer at 15:46 in the second half was the start of a 14-0 run for the Cyclones and they never looked back. 

Four Cyclones scored in double-figures. McGee led all scorers with 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting, tying a career high with six three pointers. Anthony Booker came off the bench to add 11 points on five makes. 

Chris Babb added 12 points and Lucious had 11 on three 3-pointers. 

As a team, Iowa State was 31-55 from the field (56.4%) and 11-23 (47.8%) from beyond the arc. The Cyclones outrebounded UMKC 31-20 and only committed 13 turnovers on the night. Coming off a game in which it shot 41 free throws, Iowa State only shot five against UMKC. 

Iowa State has the rest of the year off for the holidays and will return to action on January 1st against Yale at Hilton Coliseum.
