The next three teams on Iowa State’s schedule are in this week’s AP Top 25 with No. 4 Kansas being the headliner tonight at Hilton Coliseum. Iowa State’s opponent for Saturday, Texas A&M, moved up to No. 5 while West Virginia, who they’ll play next week, stayed in the top 10 at No. 9.
The Cyclones jumped five spots in the AP poll to No. 14 and the USA Today Coaches Poll to No. 16. Oklahoma retained the top spot in the AP despite their loss to Iowa State last Monday.
North Carolina took over the top spot in the Coaches Poll.
The Iowa Hawkeyes reached their highest ranking of the season at No. 3 in the AP Poll and No. 4 in the Coaches. Baylor was the only other team on Iowa State’s schedule in the polls at No. 17 in the AP and No. 18 in the Coaches.
Texas received three votes in the Coaches Poll as well.
Oklahoma also remains atop the RPI rankings to start the week with Kansas not far behind at No. 3. Iowa State starts the week at No. 13.
West Virginia (No. 15), Texas (No. 19), Baylor (No. 26), Texas Tech (No. 39) and Kansas State (No. 53) give the Big 12 eight teams in the RPI top 55. Iowa State opponents Iowa (No. 7), Texas A&M (No. 9), Colorado (No. 23) and Chattanooga (No. 46) are all in the top 50 as well.
