Prohm expects Malou update next week

DES MOINES — Steve Prohm expects there to be some kind of update on Emmanuel Malou’s status as early as next week. DMACC has finished classes for the spring semester, which should sure up Malou’s academic status heading into summer school.

“He’ll just know what he needs to do to finish up more in the summer. If it’s feasible, then he’ll be here. If it’s not feasible, or you know, it’s Manny’s decision too from a standpoint of if he entered into the draft,” Prohm said on Friday at the Coaches vs. Cancer gala in Des Moines. “If he works out and he gets feedback it might be in the best interest, you know, I’ve coached a short time but I’ve really dealt with several kids in a short time that I’ve helped make decisions whether to leave, stay. Whatever’s best for him I’ll support.”

Malou, a 6-foot-9-inch forward, is also still weighing the option of the NBA Draft. He will have until May 25 to withdraw his name from consideration. Prohm mentioned that the Boston Celtics had called about a possible workout with Malou.

The most telling moment of the interview session came when Prohm was asked, “Gun to your head, will Malou be at Iowa State next year?”

Prohm paused for a few seconds and answered simply.

“Ask me that next Friday.”
