Cyclone women rout TCU in Big 12 opener

The following is a press release courtesy of Iowa State athletics communications.

FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 14 Iowa State women’s basketball team (12-0 overall, 1-0 Big 12) took down TCU (9-3, 0-1 Big 12) by a score of 71-49 on Thursday night. With the win in their Big 12 opener, the Cyclones matched a school record for the best start in program history at 12-0.

How It Happened:

The Cyclones did the majority of their damage on the offensive end from beyond the three-point line. Iowa State made a season-high 15 treys in the game, while shooting at a 40 percent clip from three-point range. Nikki Moody got the Cyclones long-range barrage started to open the game as she had Iowa State’s first nine points on 3-3 shooting beyond the arch.

Kidd Blaskowsky followed suit from there, canning six more treys of her own before halftime, including three in final three minutes of the half to help give Iowa State a 38-30 cushion heading into the intermission. Thursday’s game was the second game in a row that the Cyclones have made 10 treys in the opening half.

The Cyclones also had a season-best night on boards, outrebounding the Horned Frogs, 55-25. Iowa State was led in rebounding by freshman Seanna Johnson with 13 boards, including four on the offensive end. It was the Brooklyn Park, Minn. native’s fifth game of the season with at least 10 rebounds.

Game Ball Goes To…

Kidd Blaskowsky. There were several worthy candidates with Moody’s well-rounded outing, as well as double-doubles from both Hallie Christofferson and Johnson. However, Blaskowsky gets the nod here after finishing 24 points and nine rebounds while shooting 8-16 from the field. It was the second-highest scoring total of sophomore’s career.

Quick Hits:

*With 10 points and 11 rebounds, Christofferson recorded her fourth double-double of the season, and the 15th of her career.

*Fifth game this season for Blaskowsky with at least three three-pointers, including each of the last three games.

*ISU’s 12-0 matches the best mark in school history. The 1995-96 and 2001-02 teams each started 12-0.

*ISU’s 15 three-pointers are its most since Feb. 13, 2010 (16 vs. Baylor).

Next Up:

The Cyclones will finish up their two-game road swing in Norman, Okla. as they take on No. 25 Oklahoma on Sunday at 1 p.m.
