The first live basketball recruiting period of July is underway beginning today and will continue through Saturday as coaches from all divisions of the NCAA pile into gyms to watch the future talent that will take the collegiate courts in the coming years. The Iowa State coaching staff has already hit the road and will likely be seen at many of the top tournaments and camps this weekend. Be sure to follow Recruit Lists on Twitter for all of the latest updates on staff sightings and performances of current recruiting interests. Below is a quick preview of where some of Iowa State’s interests will be this weekend:

NY2LA Sport’s Next Level Invitational (Milwaukee, Wis.)

Current Iowa State commit Matt Thomas and the Wisconsin Playmakers will be one of 40 17U teams at this event. The South Dakota Schoolers and 2013 prospect Zach Hanson will also be playing. The coaching staff has made a recent push towards the big man from South Dakota and this is likely one of the first times they will get to watch Hanson during a live event.  Also at the Next Level Invitational will be the Net Gain Sports team out of Minnesota, featuring 2014 prospect Rashad Vaughn. Vaughn has a slew of suitors that are vying for his services beginning in the 2014-2015 season and Iowa State definitely appears to be in the running for this top 25 talent.

Adidas Invitational – Indianapolis, (Ind.)

This is likely the largest event of the weekend with 140 17U teams playing across eight different gyms featuring many teams and players that Iowa State staff is interested in.  Starting off, current commit Monte Morris and the Michigan Mustangs will be a part of the three day event. Listing off the others, 2013 prospect Martez Walker and REACH AAU, 2013 prospect Terrence Samuel and New Rens AAU, 2013 prospect Hassan Martin and New Heights AAU, as well as 2013 prospect Tanner Lancona and the Double Pump Elite.  The Minnesota Pump N’ Run teams will also be playing at the Adidas Invitational, meaning 2014’s Reid Travis, 2015’s Jarvis Johnson and 2015’s Henry Ellenson will all be in action as well.

Other Notes

The Reebok Breakout Challenge and Showdown Series will be held this weekend in Philadelphia. Players such as 2014 prospect Jared Terrell, 2014 prospect Abdul-Malik Abu and 2014 prospect Alec Brennan are expected to participate in the Breakout Challenge with their team Expressions Elite in the Showdown Series championship this weekend. Another event in Pennsylvania that began yesterday and will continue through Friday is the Hoop Group Elite camp which will feature 2014 prospects and Team SCAN players Shavar Newkirk, Conrad Chambers and Kaison Randolph.  2014 Isaiah Whitehead is also attending and received rave reviews for his Tuesday evening performance.  Those three may then join their team for the National Hall of Fame Invitational this weekend in New England.

King James Summer Showcase in Chicago is another event that may be worthwhile for Iowa State. The Mo-Kan Elite team featuring 2014 guard Clayton Custer will be one of many teams in action.

There are many more tournaments and many more players than can be listed here, but be sure to keep up with the latest from Recruit Lists, the most detailed Cyclone basketball recruiting site available!
