Georges Niang is pumped up about Nkereuwem Okoro’s recent commitment news.

Niang, Iowa State’s inaugural 2012 class member, is so pumped that he’s already whipping up nicknames for this East Coast duo.

“We’re the one-two punch! I’m calling it the Northeast Punch,” Niang, a New Hampshire native told CycloneFanatic.com on Monday. “It’s the Nkereuwem and Georges show!”

These two go way back. In fact, Niang and Okoro (who is from New York) have been playing against each other in one way or another since ninth-grade.

“There’s no ego there. We are all just wanting to win. That’s what makes a great team,” Niang said. “He’s a strong kid and he’s competitive just like me. I can only be happy about that.

“We’re taking steps in the right direction to be the best in the Big 12 and the best in the country.”

Being that Niang has been playing against Okoro for years, he has a pretty decent idea about what kind of player Iowa State’s newest commitment is.

“He is one of those guys who no matter what the score is, he’s going to attack,” Niang said. “He has a big body. He is crafty around the rim when it comes to finishing. He’s explosive going to the hoop and he can shoot it a little bit.”

With Okoro’s commitment, Iowa State now has one scholarship left to hand out for the class of 2012.
