Iowa State was the first school to offer Adam Pavlenko a scholarship back in April.

Pavlenko, a 200-pound Tempe (Ariz.) linebacker out of Marcos De Niza High paid Paul Rhoads back this weekend, as he chose the Cyclones over Air Force, Navy and North Dakota State.

CycloneFanatic.com spoke to Pavlenko on Monday morning. Here’s a Q&A with the newest member of Iowa State’s football family.

CF: Why did you ultimatley choose Iowa State?

AP: I really liked the coaches. Coach Rhoads seems like a good coach and he is really into his players. He doesn’t just blow them off. Their facilities seem pretty nice. I met a couple of players who really like it there. It just seems like they are on top of their stuff more than some other schools."

CF: How did Coach Rhoads react when you told him that you wanted to be a Cyclone?

AP: I told him that I wanted to commit and he said, ‘sounds good.’ From there, we talked a lot about football and he wanted to talk to my high school coach. I don’t know what was said there but they talked for about 15 minutes and my coach gave me the phone back. Coach Rhoads said, ‘I can’t wait to get you up here.’

CF: Where do the Iowa State coaches see you fitting in within the program?

AP: At weakside linebacker.

CF: Are you cool with that?

AP: Yeah. As long as I get to play, I don’t care where it is at.

CF: Being that you’re from Arizona, how familiar are you with Iowa State and the Big 12?

AP: I know about the schools that they play, like Texas and Oklahoma. They play some really good teams. It is a big time conference.
