Happy Monday Cyclone Nation. Just a quick heads up – Monday Musings is being pushed to Tuesday this week. I’m playing in the Cyclone Sports Properties annual golf outing today and that will take up the majority of my time.

Here’s a Monday roundup for you though that recaps what went down over the weekend in the world of Iowa State athletics and always moving drama involving the Big 12 and conference realignment.

CAPTAINS: The Iowa State football program announced its captains for the 2012 season on Friday afternoon. Brett Bueker, Jake Knott, A.J. Klein and James White were given this honor by their teammates. CLICK HERE for more details.

RIPPLE EFFECT: Heavy rumors of Clemson making a jump to the Big 12 dominated the Internet on Sunday afternoon.

Why? According to Pete Thamel of the New York Times, the Big 12 and SEC’s "Champions Bowl" announcement last week could make certain ACC schools a little bit antsy about their current position in the landscape of college football.

As far as these Clemson to the Big 12 rumors being true, Chip Brown from OrangeBloods.com (or Mr. Realignment as I like to call him) says no, or not yet. Brown is spot on in his column by paying a good deal of attention to Notre Dame. Don’t you find it odd that over the last two years during this realignment craze, Texas and Notre Dame always seem to be talking about each other? Texas respects Notre Dame. Notre Dame respects Texas. That’s the message we’ve gotten. The two appear to be linked together and as you know by now, Texas is the cornerstone of the Big 12.

This report from ChuckOliver.netclaims that Florida State moving from the ACC to the Big 12 is "inevitable."

A Clemson blogger is the guy who got everybody fired up on Sunday, when he "reported" that a deal has been made "in principle" between the school and the Big 12.

Notre Dame. Notre Dame. Notre Dame.

NATE MCCOY: Iowa State golfer (and West Des Moines native) Nate McCoy had a big weekend. The senior finished seventh at the NCAA Bowling Green Regional on Saturday afternoon. McCoy’s final round of 71 earned him a spot at the 2012 NCAA Championships that will take place on May 29-June 3 in California.
