It’s been a very busy weekend for football recruiting in Ames and according to Greg Ohlson of CycloneSportsReport.com, Iowa State just picked up the verbal commitment of Yuba (CA) Junior College defensive end, Rony Nelson.

According to Rivals.com, Nelson, who stands at 6-foot-2 and 250-pounds, was also being recruited by TCU and East Carolina.

According to Ohlson’s report, Nelson plans to graduate early from Yuba and attend Iowa State next semester. That means that Nelson will presumably take part in Iowa State’s spring football practices later on in 2010.

Chris’ Take

Your wish is Paul Rhoads’ command. The boards have been buzzing about Iowa State’s need of some impact; JUCO defensive ends for next season. Nelson is a very nice fit for this program. The best part about this eventual signing is the fact that Nelson will be around for spring practice. That’s big.

According to CycloneReport.com’s Iowa State football commitment list, Nelson is Iowa State’s second known defensive lineman commit in the 2010 class. He joins Ankeny’s Brandon Jensen, who is projected as a defensive tackle.
