The cold weather isn’t going to stop Joshua Grady from becoming a Cyclone. South Florida or Wake Forest’s football programs could keep Grady away from Ames. But it isn’t going to be a harsh Iowa winter.

“Everybody from Florida is always wanting to know how cold it is. It wasn’t too bad,” said Grady, a 6-foot-1 athlete out of Seffner (Fla.) Armwood. “It was definitely a beautiful city. The one thing that I liked the most was that it is a college town. Everybody had Iowa State gear on so that was definitely a good thing.”

“People from Florida think it is a big issue until they actually go to there. When I was there, I was as cold as I am right now in Florida. The whole climate issue is simple. If you dress for it, it isn’t that big of a deal. You just have to get your mind past it.”

That seems simple enough. Dress for the weather.

Grady took his official visit to Iowa State last weekend. This weekend, he’ll be at South Florida, with a trip to Wake Forest looming on Jan. 21.

Grady is labeled as an “athlete” on his Rivals.com profile. If he chooses to play college ball at Iowa State, Grady will at the very least get a crack at quarterback.

“I would love the opportunity,” Grady said. “Me and Coach (Tom) Herman talked for about an hour when I was up there. That’s the kind of offense that I am already in. If I was to go there, I think that I could run that offense very well.”

“I am a pass first guy. The one thing about me that I like to do more than other quarterbacks is scrapping and throwing. A lot of quarterbacks like to get out of the pocket and run. I like to make plays with my feet and then throw it down the field.”

During his senior season, Grady accounted for 3,061 total offensive yards and 26 touchdowns while playing quarterback.

Shane Burnham has been Grady’s primary recruiter for Iowa State. You can view a highlight video from his junior year above this story.
