I didn’t anticipate almost completely starting over when I put together the second hot board of the summer, but that is essentially what happened.
Four of the 10 prospects on the first list have made commitments, including two to Iowa State, so that means quite a few new names are on this week’s list.
First, here’s the last hot board with any movement that took place during the week.
1. Caleb Chandler – Offensive tackle – Jefferson, Ga. –Committed to Iowa State
2. Bobby Roundtree – Defensive end – Largo, Fl.
3. Kam White – Safety – Clinton, Miss.
4. Ray Lima – Defensive tackle – El Camino College
5. Octavious Morgan – Cornerback – Butler County C.C. –Committed to Iowa State
6. Marquis Hayes – Offensive tackle – Maryland Heights, MO
7. Trey Coleman – Running back – West Monroe, LA –Committed to Tennessee
8. Keontae Jones – Safety – Colerain, OH
9. LeShaun Minor – Defensive tackle – Indianapolis, IN –Committed to Indiana
10. Quran Hafiz – Cornerback – Jacksonville, FL
Another note before getting to this week’s board, this will be one of Iowa State’s biggest recruiting weekends in a long time, if not ever. Somewhere in the ballpark of 25 prospects are expected on campus between Thursday and Saturday.
I’ll have a list of recruits expected in town posted to the forum on Friday.
With all that said, here’s the second summer hot board.
1. Bobby Roundtree – Defensive end – Largo, FL
Roundtree will be one of the headliners of this weekend’s group of visitors. The 6-foot-5-inch, 215 pound, prospect would be a big second step, alongside commit Angel Dominguez, in helping the coaches rebuild the defensive line.
The defensive line will become an even bigger priority as the offensive line class gets close to filling up, and that helps Roundtree take over the top spot on this week’s board.
He recently added an offer from Louisville to go along with ISU, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Kansas State and a host of others.
2. Kam White – Safety – Clinton, MS
Unfortunately, White won’t be able to make it to Ames this weekend, but the safety is still one of the biggest fish on Iowa State’s board.
The 6-foot-2-inch, 200 pound, prospect has offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Minnesota, Ole Miss and a handful more schools.
3. Marquis Hayes – Offensive tackle – Maryland Heights, MO
Hayes could almost be considered the cherry on top of a solid offensive line class for the Cyclones. Caleb Chandler’s commitment made Hayes a slightly less pressing need, but he’s still very high on Iowa State’s board.
He’s rated as the No. 1 offensive tackle in Missouri by Scout, and has seen his interests continue to grow in the past few weeks. A recent offer from Miami (FL) has taken his recruitment from a Midwest ordeal to a national one.
4. Wiley Lester – Defensive tackle – NE Oklahoma A&M
Adding a JUCO defensive lineman is one of the top priorities for the ISU coaching staff, and Lester would fill that spot very nicely. The 6-foot-6-inch, 285 pound, prospect also has offers from Houston, Baylor, West Virginia, Syracuse and Colorado State.
He’ll visit Ames this weekend.
5. Deven Lamp – Defensive end – Cedar Hill, TX
Another priority defensive lineman on the Cyclones’ board. He’s recently picked up interest from Kansas State and Illinois to go along with offers from ISU, Air Force, Nevada and Army.
Iowa State was the first Power 5 school to offer the 6-foot-4-inch, 220 pound, defensive end but I wouldn’t be surprised to see that list grow a lot over the next few months.
He’ll be in Ames this weekend.
6. Keontae Jones – Safety – Cincinnati, OH
JUCO defensive back Octavious Morgan was piece No. 1 in reloading the secondary for 2017, and Jones could fill a big hole in the puzzle as well. The 6-foot, 173 pound, prospect will be in Ames this weekend.
He’s got offers from Indiana, Iowa, Illinois, Louisivlle, Maryland, Rutgers, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Cincinnati and a few others.
His brother, Deshaunte, will be a true freshman at ISU in the fall.
7. Reese Leitao – Tight End – Jenks, OK
This highly-sought after tight end will visit Ames on Thursday. He’s got offers from Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, Houston, Oklahoma State and a handful of others.
He shows good hands with above average speed on film. He also looks to be a very solid blocker.
8. KJ Hamler – Wide receiver – Bradenton, FL
This 5-foot-8.5-inch, 150 pound, speedster is one of the most sought after wide receivers in the country, and could be a perfect fit for Iowa State’s “M” position.
He’s rated as the No. 6 receiver in Florida and the No. 243 prospect in the country by Scout.
His offer list is more than impressive with Michigan, Oregon, Arizona, Louisville, Michigan State, Penn State, West Virginia, Mississippi State and Arkansas.
He’ll visit Ames this weekend.
9. Ray Lima – Defensive tackle – El Camino
This 6-foot-3-inch, 310 pound, JUCO prospect continues to add offers with Oregon recently throwing their hats into the ring. He’ll only see his list grow as time goes on.
10. Cedrick Dort – Cornerback – Palm Beach Gardens, FL
Another defensive back prospect that will make his way to Ames this weekend. He has offers from Kentucky, Purdue, Rutgers, Syracuse, Wake Forest, Wisconsin and a host of others.
The 6-foot-1-inch, 165 pound, prospect is a solid tackler and plays with a high-motor.
