JUCO safety chooses ISU for playing time purposes

Recruiting junior college prospects can be a bit of a headache at times. But then, there is an aspect of simplicity that goes with it as well.

Iowa State football’s latest commitment, safety Devron Moore out of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M C.C., is a great example.

“The main thing was when you come out of junior college, we only have two years,” Moore told CycloneFanatic.com on Tuesday night. “The opportunity to play – they had more to offer me when it came to playing time than any other school.”

Playing time.

That is why Moore chose Iowa State over the likes of: Texas Tech, West Virginia, TCU, Kansas, Illinois, Wisconsin and Utah just to name a few of his offers. It is simple for the school too. Most of the time, you don’t bring in a JUCO to sit him on the bench.

Moore committed to Paul Rhoads on Tuesday afternoon as Iowa State’s head coach paid him a visit. Moore recently paid an official visit to Iowa State during a 34-0 victory over Kansas on Nov. 23.

“I left there pretty much thinking that I was going to come back because of how organized and stable the coaches were when it came to everything – academics and everything,” Moore said. “They knew what was going on. The game was freezing but the stands were still full with fans and the atmosphere was nice there.”

Moore said that he will be on Iowa State’s campus for the spring semester and plans to participate in spring football. He also noted that Iowa State plans on playing him at free safety, where he hopes to replace Jacques Washington in the starting lineup next fall.
