Kansas was no contest for the Cyclones

AMES — Feeling down about your favorite football program?

Just invite Kansas to town.

Iowa State bounced back from its two-game skid on Saturday by routing the Big 12’s worst team by a 38-13 final.

Cole Netten missed one field goal and made another as Iowa State only led the Jayhawks 3-0 at the end of the first quarter but the offense found its mojo late in the second. The first half was capped off with a 9-yard Allen Lazard touchdown reception with 27 seconds to go, as Iowa State led 17-0 at the break.

Playing the second 30 minutes of this game was nothing more than a formality. Mike Warren, who ended the day with 175 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries, went untouched on a 62-yard touchdown run with 9:47 to get things going in the third.

Iowa State’s offensive attack was balanced. The Cyclones out-gained Kansas 512-288. Iowa State ran for 243 yards while passing for 269. Sam Richardson completed 27 of 37 pass attempts for 269 yards, two touchdowns while also throwing two interceptions.

Fourteen penalties cursed the Cyclones in a week three loss to Toledo. On Saturday, Iowa State wasn’t called for its first penalty until there were 17 seconds to go in the third. Iowa State ended the day with two penalties for 10 yards.
