Lazard goes on TV; praises Rhoads for rant

If you’re worried about the commitment status of Urbandale wide receiver Allen Lazard because of Iowa State’s 1-3 start, don’t be.

Lazard, who every scouting service in America ranks as one of the nation’s top wide receivers in the 2014 class, joined sports director Dave Zawilinski and local high school football guru Dave Bingham on ABC 5’s “Friday Night Blitz” program last night. He spoke about Iowa State head coach Paul Rhoads’ passionate rant regarding officiating after Iowa State’s controversial 31-30 loss to Texas.

“Coach Rhoads is top-notch and one of my favorite coaches out there,” Lazard told Bingham. “I mean, you saw the character just come out of him. Whenever I talk to him, that’s what I get every single time. He just cares so much about the players and so much about what the program stands for. That’s why I want to play for him.”

Lazard also tweeted the following on Thursday evening:

 Allen Lazard ‏@AllenLazard

Why I can’t wait to play for him. Cares more about his players than anything else.

During ABC 5’s highlights of Urbandale’s 34-26 loss to West Des Moines Valley, Iowa State offensive coordinator Courtney Messingham was spotted attending the game.
