Quotes: Insight Bowl reps in Ames

Here are some quotes from today’s Insight Bowl press conference that was held in Ames. Check out CycloneFanatic.com later on today for more coverage.

Iowa State Athletics Director Jamie Pollard

On ticket sales so far… ‘We are delighted that in this short period of time, we have sold over half of our allotment. Ultimately, we would love to be able to sell all of the allotment. Will we be able to do that or not? I don’t know. I don’t think that anybody has any expectation that we are going to do that. That’s the allotment that we get from the Big 12 by contract. Those are the tickets that we are responsible for trying to sell. I have no doubt though that we will have more than10,500 people in the Phoenix area for the game in Tempe.”

Do you hope that the weather stays this bad so people will want to make the trip? “Personally, I hope not. I don’t want to have to deal with it for two more weeks. If that’s what it takes to get people to go to Tempe to the game, then I’m all for it. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.”

Do you have a direct track on the number of alums in that area? “We have about 10,000 living, active alumni members within about five hours of the Phoenix area when you count L.A., the Bay area, San Diego. Those households are at about 25 to 30 thousand people. I think that was a big factor in our turnout last time. I think that was also a great selling point to the committee.”

Iowa State University President Gregory Geoffrey On the rivalry with Minnesota… “If you live in this part of the country, you know about all of the Minnesota jokes that we like to tell. I haven’t seen a Gopher yet that can stand up when a Cyclone comes around.”

Insight Bowl Representative Jay Fields “We are thrilled to have Iowa State University in our game. This is a football team that is going places.”
