Tommy Tuberville knows two things about Paul Rhoads.

He can coach. And he sure can ride a motorcycle in style.

“He and his wife both," Tuberville told CycloneFanatic.com on Tuesday. "That was the first thing that I noticed after hiring him, was his motorcycle.”

Rhoads was Tuberville’s defensive coordinator at Auburn during the 2008 season.

“We’re very similar on defense as far as how we coach and teach," Tuberville said. "We’re both defensive guys. We believe in simplicity, speed and letting the kids play.”

“He’s a veteran coach. He knows how to handle players. He knows how to recruit. He has a lot of enthusiasm and can motivate. Ninety-nine percent of coaching is knowing how to stay young in a young man’s world.”

Rhoads got the best of his old boss last year in Ames, as Iowa State beat Texas Tech 52-38. This season, the Cyclones will head to Lubbock on Oct. 29.
