Recruiting Roundup: Kicker commits, Hill makes history

By Chris Williams, CycloneFanatic.com Publisher

A few quick Iowa State football recruiting updates before we begin game week coverage at CycloneFanatic.com.

*** Iowa State likely found its replacement for kicker Grant Mahoney on Sunday, when Ankeny’s Cole Nettencommitted to the Cyclones. Netten is currently 2-for-3 on field goals this season. He’s kicked a 38-yarder and is 10-for-10 on PAT’s.

"Ever since I was a little kid, I have been an Iowa State fan," Nettens told CycloneFanatic.com on Monday morning. "I grew up in Ames and I have a passion for Iowa State."

The Cyclones offered Nettens a scholarship on Sunday. Without any hesitation at all, Nettens accepted Iowa State’s offer on Sunday. I’ll have more on this story later this week.

*** In a 49-3 rout of Dubuque Hempstead, Iowa State running back commitment Barkley Hill of Cedar Falls went nuts for 214 yards and six touchdowns on only 20 carries last Friday. The six touchdowns marked a school record for Hill. According to a Tommy Birch story in Sunday’s Des Moines Register, six rushing touchdowns in one game means that Hill is now tied for the fourth most in state history.

*** Luke Knott isn’t a quarterback huh? Knott went 5-for-5 for 197 yards and two touchdowns in Lee’s Summit West’s 49-13 win over Raymond-Peculiar on Friday.

*** Defensive end commit, Collin Bevins of Creston, recorded six tackles (one for a loss) in the Panthers’ 30-7 win over Chariton on Friday.

*** Linebacker commitment Kane Seeley of Perry recorded 12 tackles in Perry’s 17-7 loss to Jefferson-Scranton on Friday.
