TCU has a "major announcement" that is scheduled to be made later this evening, where it is expected that the school will announce that it will formally join the Big 12 Conference in July.

How does this affect Iowa State?

In football and basketball, chalk this addition up as a big positive for the Cyclones.

For football, it helps from a recruiting perspective.

"We’re replacing a Texas school with a Texas school and the recruiting fact that we’ll still be going to Texas two times every year to play football is important to our recruiting base," said Iowa State head football coach Paul Rhoads during his Monday press conference.

Rhoads didn’t have any other comments on the matter.

“It’s something that moving forward, I think I’ll contemplate more," Rhoads said. "I’m so focused on what’s taking place in the season right now and allowing the people who manage that to take care of that."

The TCU move is good for Iowa State basketball but it has nothing to do with recruiting.

TCU went 1-15 last season in Mountain West Conference play. For now at least, the Horned Frogs will help replace Nebraska and Colorado, two teams which the Cyclones have dominated in hoops over the years.

Having said that, don’t expect TCU to be down in hoops for long. The TCU athletic department is about to start making big boy money. My money says that it is only a matter of time before the Horned Frogs invest in hoops.
