A very good Kansas State team vs.
ISU.
Halftime score - 28-0,
ISU
Cyclones get the ball first and are forced to punt, kicking the ball from the south to the north.
KSU player receives the ball, right in front of the student section. Our gunner has perfect line on the return man and at the last second, is blatantly clipped.
KSU returns that play for a score and never looks back, scoring 28 more unanswered points.
Final: KSU 35
ISU 28
We didn't lose because of that one play, but it sure didn't help our case any.
OHHHH - what a nightmare! I was sitting on the East side at the 35 yd line, about 16 rows up and had perfect vision of that play -- what a hugely blown call!!! Our entire section was about to storm the field and slap the officiating crew upside the head. The clip was so blatant - in front of God and everyone!
But, you're right, 22 : that one play didn't necessarily cost us the game. However, up to that point, KSU basically had had horrible field position - and the offense was struggling big time. If the clipping call is made, they are forced to start inside their 10 yard line. My prediction is that that would have been extremely demoralizing to the team - they had absolutely NO MOMENTUM at all. The called back TD - with horrible field position - would have taken the wind out of their sails. Instead, that "big play" gave them all the momentum they needed.
That game ranks behind the Missouri and Kansas losses & the Independence Bowl loss (all missed FGs), on my "most frustrating" losses of all time!
