In an interview, Cael said Clark was wrestling better, so he got the nod. Earlier in the year, Kist was beating Clark, and I hear Clark is beating Kist pretty good now. I think Cael is a firm believer in putting the best guy on the mat, like last year at 174 when Turner was put in and ended up making it to Nationals.
The wrestle off in practice is one of the hardest results to go by. Of course, the two wrestlers know how to wrestle each other and just because one can beat the other, doesn't mean that one is more likely to win matches against other opponents. IMO, Clark matches up with opponents better than Kist because of his size and style. I think Clark has an outside chance of making it to Nationals. If he can beat Tyler Shinn of Oklahoma St or Tony Pescaglia of Missouri, he get third at Big 12s and go to Nationals. The returning National Champ, Paul Donahoe of Nebraska, is the wrestler to beat at 125.
