IT's easy for outsiders to critisize. They have no vested interest and still see
ISU as the loveable losers. To be honest, that's kind of how i think they see Mac also. "He's a good guy, wins a few games, I hate to see him go." For the most part, they don't care if
ISU wins or not. So, why not keep the coach that gave you mediocre success? It's the fans that have to deal with this on a day in and day out basis. The only time they have to think about it is when they write about what a great guy he is.
If being a great guy was the only criteria you needed to be a good football coach, I'd be making a helluva lot more than I do now doing just that.
