STARS MATTER. Is it an exact science? No. And on that note, we can all put the Blake Larsen analogy to bed. OLD news but thanks DM Register. You win with talent. Coaching helps some. This class that we put together is solely saved by the rb that transferred and a couple others that are good - allegedly - otherwise it is poor. I'm not saying the kids are poor but the totality of the class is 63rd in the nation. There are 66 BCS conference schools!
Oh, but Iowa is 53rd! So what. Even more embarrassing for them. Thank god we didn't give our coach $3 mil/year.
Will our recruiting get better? Maybe. We have to win on the field to get momentum in recruiting. It is clear from this class that going into a kids house and telling them "well we need talent and you can play right away" doesn't work. It didn't work.
Go and look at the top 10 or 25 teams' recruiting classes and our mountain is obvious. The rich do get richer. Those little stars matter because while it may only be a star difference that can translate into a step faster or a juke better or a fingertip closer. That wins games.
I'll be sending in my season ticket renewal in a a few weeks and I'll cheer the Cyclones on as I have for several decades. However, let none of us be surprised by the final score of some of our games. You can call me a naysayer or whatever you choose - but when I see someone grading Chizik's first class as a B (on this site), I have to wonder what grade 64, 65, and 66 BCS coaches got.
