It comes down to a question of whether Lickliter's son and Ferentz's son were good enough to get a scholarship at a comparable school. If the son is, then they should probably get a scholarship at the father's school. If not, they they should probably have to walk on at the father's school. If the son isn't good enough to get a scholarship at a comparable school, and gets one at the father's school, then the coach is crucified for preferential treatment of his son. If the son is good enough to get a scholarship at a comparable school, but walks on at the father's school, then the coach is crucified for getting a scholarship level athlete without having to use a scholarship because it is his son. Bottom line is that the income of the family shouldn't come into play for the athletic scholarship.
