It's certainly an OK sign, but I remember back in 2005 following the miracle win in the Capital One Bowl, Captain Kirk was less than enthused about the team's spring practices. This was when a lot of people were calling for Iowa to be the 2005-06 sleeper to play for the national title and for Drew Tate to win the Heisman... and was also back when I was still half-Hawk, half-Cyclone (having gone to Middle and High School in IC), and still following both teams.
Not to say it's a bad sign that Kirk showing some negativity in order to motivate his guys, but it's not a predictor to how he will coach or how the team will perform that year.
