Ames, Iowa — Iowa State running back J.J. Bass has been suspended indefinitely for unspecified reasons, coach Gene Chizik said Saturday.
Bass, who will be a senior next season, rushed for 462 yards and four TDs in 2007, his first with the team. Bass was limited by an injured shoulder in the second half of the season and Alexander Robinson eventually replaced him as the No. 1 tailback.
Chizik declined to say why Bass has been suspended, though he pointed out that Bass hasn't had any "brushes with the law."
"We set our players to a very high standard of what we expect from them on and off the football field," Chizik said. "If they're not doing that, it's our prerogative to suspend them from the team."
