Stop the player turnover (transfer to other schools) so that HB sees stability in the program. Kids leaving for the NBA could be used as a positive recruiting tool. Kids transferring to other schools...not so much...
Perhaps
GMac as an individual has little effect on HB (and I really don't believe that either). But what
GMac does with the team on the floor will have a significant effect on what HB does. It's unlikely that anybody with as many good choices as HB purportedly has will choose to play with a team that looks to be a loser and shows no promise of improving.
I'm sorry...saying that the head coach of a Div I
MBB team has little effect on what recruits come to the school just seems to lack grounding in reality...
Hey, I totally agree winning games will help. McD is the coach, though, and not a player. How many games have we lost in the past two seasons due to poor coaching during the game or poor planning by the coaches prior to the game. I would say, not many. There may be a couple where the coaches just missed on the strategy.
ISU is losing games because a lack of depth and talent.
The turnover thing will slow but will always be there. CoJo left for playing time. I don't see this as a bad thing. If players are leaving because they don't like the coach or the school, then that is bad.
And lastly, I didn't say that the coach has no effect on recruiting. It would be silly to think that. He does with most recruits. Most recruits need to be "sold" on the school and that is the coaching staff responsibility. For example, getting Craig Brackins to come from Palmdale, CA to Ames, IA is a recruiting job well done. But when a kid already knows EVERYTHING there is to know about a school, team, and city, what else can the coach do or say to get that kid to come play for him? Of course winning will help. But I doubt Coach is sitting around going "hey, I have an idea. Lets win some games. That will get HB to come here." Of course the coaching staff is trying to win games. But it isn't going to happen without talent and depth. Chicken or the egg problem.
