I think the group feeling is that the guy lost half his jumping ability, his quick takeoff step, etc and was not improving healthwise. That may be a major indicator that something was wrong with the foot. If the foot belongs to a valuable component of a team that needs good players, additional sleuth work may have been needed before the bruisde cleared up. Maybe that is just me thinking too hard...
Who's to say the deep bone bruise wouldn't have caused the same symptoms? Also, maybe they did all they could short of cutting him open.
If this happened to a non-athlete, the doctor would order rest and they'd look at it again after the bruise cleared up. Wes never took the time to have the bruise clear up.
