I mean, a team with a #74 SOS trashing a team with a #95 SOS? Really?
Just FWIW, the Big Ten and Big 12 are seperated by an average placing of 4 spots. The average Big 12 placing is 39.5, while the Big Ten's is 43.5
Good attempt at spin, but in reality, SOS can truly only be judged at the end of each season, not looking at how teams did the previous year.
Based on that, what I do find quite amazing is that the record for UoI's opponents this year is actually BETTER than last year's. The three teams that are being replaced from last year - Syracuse, No. Ill, and W. Mich were a combined 9-27, while Maine, Pitt and Fla Int'l were 10-25. That means, Iowa could only muster a 6-6 record against teams with a 68-82 combined record.
FWIW, ISU's opponents last year had a record of 96-57. And yes, there is a reason that every one of ISU's bowl years (except the Boise Bowl year) has occurred when we have had the easier conference schedule and the same can be said of KU. When the schedule is easier, you should take advantage of it.
