Some advice, FWIW, pay attention during the next year to things she likes, ideas she might mention, items she says she'd like but doesn't really want to buy. A year ago for Christmas, I "bought" for my husband two spots in (for me) a pricey fundraising golf tournament. A foundation we both support sponsors the annual tournament and it's at a higher class course, with all the extras. Boy, was he surprised when he opened the envelope with a fancy gift certificate inside. At that cost, I wouldn't do it every year, probably not even every five years, but I knew he would like it and he did. He could ask whomever he wanted to play with him. Our future son-in-law earned his way to that spot!
