Not a NASCAR fan per se, but have had the opportunity to attend both the Busch, and Cup races at Dover on an all access pass. My former employer was a big sponsor of NASCAR, and I was able to attend the race on their credentials.
I went with our Director of Motorsports, and my boss. We were able to go anywhere we wanted on the infield, garage, pits, transports, etc. On Saturday, our Motorsports guy had several business meetings with team owners and managers. We got to tag along and sit in on them. During the Busch race, we watched a lot of it on top of Richard Childress' transport. There were 4 of us, me, the 2 guys I work with, and Richard Childress.
The technology and science behind the scenes are amazing. And you can't lose site of the marketing skills, and the detail and strategy involved in ad placement. Much more than a bunch of guys driving in circles.
The Sunday race was more "serious" with no business meetings or an ability to go inside the transports. But we were still to get inside the garage stalls, while they were working.
After my experience, I am not much more (if even that) of a casual fan. But I do have a much different perspective and appreciation for the technology and business involved.
If you are a NASCAR fan, I can't imagine a better way to experience a race. If you have an opportunity do it.
