Adjust the brightness on your monitor down a little bit, but not enough that you have to strain your eyes to read it.
On web sites, it's much easier on the eyes (and saves energy from your monitor too) to read off a dark background with lighter text rather than the other way around. If you can change some settings around, that's better for your eyes.
I'm on a computer pretty much all day and haven't run into problems, but those things do help.
