First, don't look at a monitor (or pretty much anything else) for eight straight hours. Look at something that's a different color or different visual texture, and be sure to look at something or just gaze without really seeing off in the distance. In other words, change up what your eyes are looking at to switch between muscles and concentration.
Second, don't focus on or agonize over the fact that you won't be working on paper. Chances are you'll need to look at something on paper during your project time. Heck, pull out a phone book and look up something if you just want paper.
Third, remember to close your eyes every once in a while and enjoy the darkness.
