The above is not a realistic viewpoint.

An 18 or 19 year old kid away from home is going to turn more often for advice to a guy with whom he had a 1 or 2 year relationship with than to a guy who he has known for a week or two as an incoming coach. We have heard than WM did not actively encourage guys to leave. OTOH, I have yet to hear one person - even those close to Rahshon - say that he offered ANY reasons why a player should stay at his current school.

It's water over the dam, but WM does not get a free pass on all of the departures. For all we know, GMac might not have even wanted all of the returning players on his team. What I'm convinced of is that they would have had to stay on under his terms and some chose not to buy in.
