With apologies to SH and JonDMiller, I have to get something off my chest. I have 3 young daughters and the oldest is in 2nd grade. Today, they had a "sports" theme at her school, so she wore her Cyclone cheerleading outfit. When she got home, she told me about the constant ribbing that she got because she was wearing Cyclone clothing instead of Hawkeye wear.
Now, this would normally not frustrate me - I'd just blow it off - I mean it's just a few 2nd graders right?! It's just that the entire year this has happened. Nothing down-right mean is said, it's just the prevaling mindset that "how dare you wear or sport anything
ISU - because the Hawks rule everything." I asked my daughter if she ever gives out any of what she is receiving - she doesn't [I'll have to teach her a left hook and a right upper-cut for the next time it happens: )]. Anyway - I think this is just a microcosm of the adult world. There seems to be far less harrassment when Hawks sport their colors than when Cyclone fans do.
Just thought I'd vent.
