AMES, Iowa – The Big 12 Conference office has announced that former Iowa State football player Bryce Braaksma and former tennis player Chrissy Derouin have been selected to receive the 2007-08 Dr. Prentice Gautt Postgraduate scholarship. Braaksma and Derouin will be two of the 24 Big 12 student-athletes receiving the award. Two student-athletes from each member institution were honored.
Braaksma, a Sheldon, Iowa native, started all 12 games at defensive tackle for the Cyclones in 2007, recording 29 stops and five tackles-for-loss. The two-time first-team academic all-Big 12 selection and biology major will continue his schooling in the medical field.
“I am really appreciative of the coaching staff and academic services staff that kept me on track and made sure that I worked hard and succeeded not only on the playing field but in the classroom as well,” said Braaksma. “Amber Moyer and Chad Grotegut did a great job of making sure that student-athletes like myself stay motivated in the classroom. I feel honored to win this scholarship and would like to give credit to my parents and everybody that I worked with at Iowa State for making this possible,” said Braaksma.
