Quoted post</div><div class='quotemain'> McCarney is great for Iowa State, and I hope he stays until he retires, but he is not and probably will never be a very good gameday coach. I see his teams as being disciplined and well-prepared, but he is WAY too conservative and stubborn about some things. This weakness in his coaching arsenal has probably prevented his teams from playing in two Big 12 Championship games. [/b][/quote]
I agree with your analysis . . . bad game day coach. good at getting the best possible talent to iowa state and turning them into football players. as iowa state builds a longer track record of success, the talent should continue to increase because of his sales/recruiting skills. still, i would dump him for Steve Loney in a second.
Question for people reading this thread . . . if McCarney were really the 46th best coach in the country (you could somehow prove this), would that be good enough for you?
I don't think it would be good enough for me, but I also don't know if it's true . . . I also think Jamie Pollard will help Dan to improve his abilities by challenging him to be more successful.
