Bryce makes a good point here. We've all heard the "this year is different" speech all too many times - in multiple sports both at
ISU and elsewhere. Realistically, team leadership and chemistry can just as easily slip or at least remain static from year to year. Coaches usually have a good feel for the situation, but neither they nor the players are going to call attention to a downward trend. Blasting leadership and chemistry is usually reserved for after the fact as part of the hype for the upcoming season.
I'm not saying that the optimism about upcoming teamwork is misguided, just that we'd probably hear the same thing even if it was way off base.
