And I think if you're talking about the history of the Big 12, you should only talk about what the teams have done since they entered the Big 12, which was in 1996.
The basis for their conference championship that year was the fact that Texas A&M, who went 6-0-1 against conference opponents, was on probation and thus ineligible for the conference title by Southwest Conference rules. Thus, the second-place team was declared conference champion. In this case, 5 teams were tied for second at 4-3 (while Houston and SMU missed brought up the rear of the conference standings at 1-6 an 0-6-1, respectively). Therefore, those 5 teams were all declared conference champions. Wow. That would have been a great year to be a mediocre team in the SWC. Basically all you had to do was stay off of probation and you got yourself a championship trophy.
