Lauren Cummings (left) and Erin Boeve will be trying out for spots on the USA Women's Volleyball National Team.

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State volleyball players Erin Boeve, Lauren Cummings and Kaylee Manns will be among the best players in the nation when they attend a tryout at the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center for the women’s national teams, Feb. 24-25.

The trio played a key role in helping Iowa State earn a berth in the NCAA Championships for the first time since 1995. The Cyclones finished the season with a 21-11 overall record and a 12-8 mark in Big 12 play.

Boeve, a rising senior from Steen, Minn., was a first-team all-Big 12 selection and earned Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors from the league. The middle blocker averaged 3.20 kills and 1.61 blocks en route to earning AVCA Honorable Mention All-America honors. She hit a career-best .294 and led the team with 29 service aces.

Cummings, a senior from Ankeny, Iowa, had a major impact in her first season as a Cyclone. Cummings, who transfered to Iowa State from Northwest Missouri State before the season, hit a team-high .317 and averaged 2.96 kills and 1.06 blocks.

Boeve and Cummings are trying out for spots on the USA Women’s Volleyball National Team and its affiliate programs, including the 2007 World Championships and the US Open Championships.

Manns, a setter from Topeka, Kan., broke the single-season school-record with 1,433 assists while directing the Cyclones’ offensive attack. Manns helped improve the Iowa State hitting percentage to .230, a year after the team hit .198. Her 12.91 assists per game was fourth in the league. Manns will be competing for a spot on the junior national team.
