Why are the cardinals favored this time? Because Kip Wells is pitching?
Yes, because Wells is pitching. I read an article yesterday that said he's had the worst winning percentage (something like .290) out of any starting rotation pitcher in the past 3-4 years, and his ERA (something close to 6.00) was 3rd worst in that same time period. I'm so glad we got rid of him. He's pretty much awful.
That said, now I'm going to bet on the Cards and I bet I lose.
`Whats the o/u for Wells' ERA in Colorado? I'm guessing around 7.75
It was 6.70 in St. Louis, so I'm going to say 13.5 in Coors Field. That might be a little well though. What I want to know is what idiot in the Rockies front office signed this guy?
Kip Wells is actually starting this year in the bullpen for the Rockies, but because of the makeup game on Tuesday, they are asking him to make a spot start.
When Wells was moved to the bullpen for St. Louis last year, his ERA dropped about 4 points to around 2.31. The bullpen is also finally where he picked up a few victories again.
That said, he's starting again, so I reasonably expect the Cards to smash him good.
How will Lohse fare against the Rockies line-up? He supposedly turned heads during spring training, and he was a late acquisition. But I don't hold out much hope that he'll be anything special.
I agree on the over. With these two guys pitching, the ball probably won't be staying in the park much.
