Friday, April 4 Wrigley Field | 1:20 PM CT
Chris Sampson, RHP ( Career vs. CHC, 2-2 3 BB 7 K 0.60 ERA .189 BAA ) Astros (1-3) @
Rich Hill, LHP (Career vs. HOU, 3-2 9 BB 21 K 2.95 ERA .173 BAA) Cubs (1-2)
Scouting Report:
Astros: Sampson, who made the season-opening rotation for the second consecutive year, was 7-8 with a 4.59 ERA and a career-high 51 strikeouts over 24 appearances (19 starts) for the Astros in 2007. He struck out a career-high eight batters on April 28 against the Brewers, allowing one run over 6 1/3 innings for his third win of the season. He missed the last several weeks of the season with an elbow strain.
Cubs: Hill had a spring he'd probably rather forget. The young lefty did not walk a batter in 15 2/3 innings in 2007, but in 1 1/3 innings this year, he walked six. It wasn't pretty. He has to concentrate on keeping his shoulders level, and his mechanics in line, and then he'll be fine. He was 1-0 with a 3.32 ERA in three starts against Houston.

I have said it before and I will say it again. Rich Hill has one pitch, his curve ball. It fools hitters the first 1 or 2 times they see it. Then it will start landing on Sheffield.

Do the Cubs have the lowest BA in the league so far? It's so early but dang, Fukodome is the only one hitting the ball. Nice start for Soriano...

not good when hitters 1-4 are 1-12 through 6+ innings
and 9-61(.148 BA) so far this year. But hey, at least Aram just singled!

Damn, I missed my usual doubling of credits today by betting on the Cubs' opponent.
