cards better not blow another lead at the end. thinkin it's time for izzy to go.
amen, i think wainright has pitched 2 games of 7+ innings with NO runs given up and izzy has came away with the loss. if i was adam, i would punch izzy's momma right in the mouth.
Who would we replace Izzy with? There is no one in the Cards system near enough ready to be a closer. Izzy is reminding me of the 2006 version who blew 10 saves. After last night, that is 3 already this year.
Izzy was killing me last night. Ok, so the two earlier blown saves he said his cutter wasn't working the way he wanted. He said that he wanted to "get back to basics" meaning, throw more 4-seam fastballs.
So, what does he do last night? He pumps about 97% fastballs in there. Yes, use the fastball to get ahead, but PLEASE use something off-speed! I recall him throwing two curveballs, both of which were way out of the strike-zone. Ianella ripped a first-pitch fastball because Izzy threw nothing but fastballs to the previous hitter. I think he's our best option for closer right now, but he needs to get it figured out.
Lohse is imploding. He gave up 8 runs against the Cubs and already 5 today against the Rockies. He was our best starter during the first 2 or 3 weeks, looks like he's coming back down to reality. His ERA had been just above 2 before he faced the Cubs; he's now at 4.57 and cannot get out of trouble.
Also, it is extremely fitting that the Cardinals cannot generate any offense against a guy whose ERA was over 20 coming into this game. I wasn't expecting us to sweep Colorado in 4 games, but winning last night would have been nice to take 3 of 4 and win another series. Although it's early yet, it looks like we'll have to settle for the 2-2 split.
