Re: I guess it's safe to say that Husker ...
Saturday should be a pretty good test for Nebraska. The weakness of the Husker defense appears to be right up the middle, so it will be interesting to see how they handle K-State's rushing attack.
Taylor Martinez may struggle in some of these games, but he still brings more big-play ability to the table than Lee or Green. He's the QB of the future in Lincoln, so that's why he's playing now.

The NU/KSU game is a week from tomorrow night, no question that this will be a good test for NU's run game which has been suspect, but if NU will be able to shut down KSU's running game, I don't see Coffman having much success against the NU secondary.

Right, forgot about the the Thursday timeslot. I agree that Coffman probably won't do much against NU. Locker had a pretty terrible day, and he's substantially better than Coffman. NU can probably load up against the run and take their chances with KSU's passing game. KSU would be a little more worrysome if they had a decent passing game to keep the defense honest.

I am trying to defend Huskers here but than you say the team wasn't "up" for the game, fans didn't care, etc. That is BS. Husker fans are always up for a football game and I have a hard time believing that Bo P doesn't have the boys ready to play every week. Was the team not "up" for ISU last year?

NU has yet to prove that they have the LB's this year to shut down a running game - especially a power running game. They have been going primarily with a dime defense which works fine against spread and speed teams, but the verdict is still out on how well they can hold up against power running which they have yet to face this year. I'm not sure if they have the true LB's available for when they need them.

There was no buzz, no fan exictment at all for the game. All of last week, my only fear going into the SDSU game was that Nebraska would have a let down and not be mentally ready to play and that fear came true. Don't get me wrong, while listening Saturday night online, I never was worried that Nebraska would pull a VA Tech and lose to a FCS team, but they were not mentally ready to play, almost looking ahead to bigger and better things.
As Coach Pelini called it, Saturday was a "reality check" for NU.

Personally I think the "we just didn't show up" comments are just excuses. I know that every team uses them so this is not a knock on you at all. College kids don't have trouble getting up for a game, especially when they have 80K fans cheering them on. Sometimes plays just happen in a game to stop momentum, change a game plan, etc. Players have off games, but I don't think it's because they weren't into it

Not to be too bold, but I see Neb winning out the regular season, losing against Oklahoma in the Big XII championship.... I think Nebraska is the most over rated team in the country (mostly because they haven't played anyone yet) but theres nothing too scary about their schedule so them running the table through the regular season wouldn't be a shocker. People seem to forget last year at this time Nebraska's offense hadn't been exposed yet, it was the first time they played a team with a pulse (TT). I think in 2 or 3 weeks the real Nebraska will be revealed. FWIW I'm not saying they won't continue rolling, I just want to see how they fair against some decent competition. Washington is a mediocre team at best, they'll play atleast 6 teams better than them before this season is over.
The only bigger turnoff than finding out a woman smokes, is finding out she's a Husker fan. -

Re: I guess it's safe to say that Husker ...
Nebraska is the real deal. The problem is the teams they are going to face. ISU, KU, KSU, and Mizzou are going to come out swinging. When you turn your back on your long time conference mates, people tend to get angry.
NU will lose at least 1 game to the North leftovers.

Taylor Martinez played like the redshirt freshman he is making just his 4th career start, which I guess if you were to have a hiccup game, i'd rather have it against SDSU than say Texas on Oct. 16.
