College football attendance 12 years ago.
I posted this on a Missouri forum and thought you all might be interested as well. It's interesting to see what people were averaging just 12 years ago.
Check out the Big 12's attendance from 98.
77,440 - Texas
76,186 - Nebraska
70,777 - Oklahoma
58,293 - Texas A&M
57,335 - Missouri
46,503 - Colorado
43,256 - Texas Tech
42,220 - Kansas State
41,656 - Oklahoma State
35,181 - Iowa State
33,697 - Baylor
32,367 - Kansas
I wish they had records like this that went back further then 1998. It would be interesting to see everyones attendance going back say 25 years ago. Still just since the 98 season there has been an noticeable increase in college football attendance.
To compare here are last years Big 12 attendance numbers.
101,175 - Texas
85,888 - Nebraska
84,778 - Oklahoma
76,800 - Texas A&M
64,120 - Missouri

50,581 - Kansas
50,249 - Texas Tech
50,088 - Colorado
46,763 - Kansas State
46,242 - Iowa State
36,306 - Baylor
The difference in our attendance compared with Texas (the team with the highest attendance in 98) was 20,105 by 2009 that difference has grown to 37,055.
Since I'm posting this here I'll add the difference for Iowa State. In 1998 Texas averaged 42,259 more per game then Iowa State by 2009 that difference has grown to 54,933.
The difference between Texas and the team with the lowest attendance (Baylor in 09 and Kansas in 98) has grown from 45,073 to 64,889.
Every team though has improved their attendance from 98 to 09.
Increase in average attendance per school

Re: College football attendance 12 years ago.
That's a really interesting post. I never expected to really post this, but it looks from that like the Big 12 has been good to its members, at least in the sense that all of us have seen growth.
Something with this for athletic budgets (and maybe university budgets) would be interesting, although it would obviously have to deal with inflation somehow.

I think we can all agree that ISU has the best fans in the B12.

Interesting. Did any of those stadiums expand in that time? If so, by how many seats?

I just don't keep up with other teams stadiums because it depresses me. I was just curious if these were empty seats being filled or renovation creating more seats.

I amnot sure but I think every team but Baylor(maybe they have) has had some renovations that increased seating.

If this isn't justification for bowling in the south end zone, I don't know what is!
