Re: ESPN to pay Texas $12 mil a year for Longhorn sports
The Sports Business Journal just had a report a few days ago that Fox and ESPN were in a deadlock for the deal and it was around $3 mil a year. Unless ESPN upped their bid by 400% in the last few days, I think orangebloods.com may be full of misinformation yet again. http://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/article/67235

Either way NU fans are going to have a fit.

The $20 million in Big Ten conference TV revenue (which you won't even fully get for 5 years) has been trumped by the ability to form your own network and potentially make $12 million more.
The campaign starts now. November 6, 2012. -

Wow. The Big 12 is safe and ISU will have a home for awhile.
No Big 12 team is going to the Pac 10 without Texas and they are going no where. Only A&M is looking at the SEC, everyone else in the South is happy. Mizzou could go to the Big 10, but that was a long shot before they whored themselves this summer. And if A&M does leave, you just replace them with TCU.
This is great new for Iowa State. Bring on the round-robin and the Great Plains Conference!

Too many flags? UT's fault. Suspension for a cheap shot? UT's fault.

But I don't think them leaving would kill the conference, nor would anyone else be likely to follow. As long as Texas is in, there will be a Big XII conference. Maybe not kill, but Texas A&M leaving would hurt big time and further dilute the Big 12. Huge fan following, top academic/research school, great sports programs across the board. Doubt that the presidents and AD's of the Big 12 would want A&M to leave...

So the whole conference thing this past summer has worked out in our favor. I think that Jamie had a big hand in the whole deal as well as a couple of other AD's. Nebraska and Colorado are the big losers.

At this point, does more money for Texas help them get better as a team? I'm thinking they might turn into a Notre Dame.

BUT, I also doubt that the Texas politicians would LET them. They're going to make similar money in the Big 12. All they have to do is say that UT, TT and OU won't play them if they leave and they're stuck.

Re: ESPN to pay Texas $12 mil a year for Longhorn sports
I know I'll get killed for this ... but - I'd watch out for Independent Texas in 2016. This deal went up WAY too fast. Something is up... which could be ESPN - the Home of Texas sports.

I dont think anyone would want TAMU to leave, but they didnt want NU to leave either. One possible upside i could see there would be that Texas would still hold the texas market down just fine without TAMU, so itd be another case of one less school to split a similar sized pot with.
If you wanted to, you then go and grab someone like Louisville\Cincinatti to get back to 10 and end up with a larger market and the same number of schools splitting it.

If texas went indy, you'd have to think there'd be nothing holding TAMU back from joining the SEC, possibly with OU

Re: ESPN to pay Texas $12 mil a year for Longhorn sports
An independent Texas ... could schedule OU and A&M every year. ESPN would make BANK off owning Texas football. A&M can move to the SEC and UT wouldn't care.
